Why are sharks my fave animals??
Because they have been around for 400 million years, outlived the dinosaurs, and survived mass extinction to rule the seas!
1 of the best experiences of my life was getting to swim with the nurse 🦈s in
The 🇧🇸. I swear, it's not as scary as it sounds!! This is because...
Contrary to popular belief, most 🦈s don't attack people unless they feel threatened or bothered! (Especially the nurse sharks)
Sharks kill about 10 people per year...vs the 100 million sharks that are killed each year by humans for their fins, meat, and other prized parts of their bodies.
Sharks are important to our oceans because they keep the ecosystem balanced.
Fun Fact #1:
Shark skin feels rough, like sandpaper. This is because their skin is made of
tooth-like structures called dermal denticles, not scales.
Fun Fact #2:
Some species of sharks have to move 24/7, even during rest or "sleep", to keep alive. They have to keep oxygen-laden water over their gills to breathe!
I've said this before, but The Bahamas is 1 country I hope to return soon--to see the hammerhead sharks in Bimini~
